What is Product Engineering?

  • July 11, 2025

There’s a version of product engineering that lives in CAD.
Take a spec. Draw a part. Release it. Move on.
Maybe you get feedback during launch. Maybe not.

That’s not the model we’re building.

At PJWS, Product Engineers Own More

Here, product engineering means ownership.
Not just of a drawing — but of performance.
Not just of a design — but of the entire spring assembly solution and how it runs in the real world.

That includes how the product performs in the customer’s system, how it holds up across variation and load cycles, and how we manufacture it with repeatability, cost control, and long-term quality.

It’s not about drawing the spring assembly. It’s about owning the outcome.

It means being proactive. Asking better questions. Getting to the root of what matters. Working through tradeoffs to create a solution that performs in the field and works for our business.

This is engineering for builders. For people who care about outcomes, not just inputs.

This is the kind of engineering we’re working to build every day.
And the kind of engineer we’re looking to grow and support.

You’re Not Just a Designer — You’re the Bridge

Product engineering is the connection between customer needs and manufacturing execution.

Neither can succeed without the other.

To do that well, you have to understand the full system. Not just the part.

You need to think like a builder. Know how things run. Understand what happens when tolerances stack up, when spring forces vary, when surface finishes affect cleanliness, and when a design that looks good in CAD breaks down under real-world constraints.

You don’t get that from distance.
You get it from ownership.
You take it from concept to customer to production.

That’s what good looks like.

Who Thrives Here

The people who thrive as product engineers in our environment usually share a few things in common.

  • They’re hands-on, with real mechanical intuition. They care deeply about how things work.
  • They’re doers. They put in the work and develop strong technical fundamentals often before they have the title.
  • They’re hungry for more ownership, faster learning, and clearer impact. They’ve earned their stripes in fast-paced environments, supported customer programs, and now want more influence and tighter loops between decisions and outcomes.

They don’t all look the same on paper.
But they’re all builders. Doers. Problem solvers.
They care about the work. They want to be challenged. They want to grow by doing and be trusted to make it happen.

If you’ve ever thought,

“I’m capable of more, just give me the chance.”

This is your chance.

What You’ll Get

You’ll get real ownership.
Not just over your design but also over testing, manufacturing, and customer engagement.
You’ll be trusted to make decisions. And supported to grow.

We don’t expect perfection.
But we expect people to care.
Who ask good questions, take initiative, and push for better.

This is what product engineering means to us.
It’s how we’re building a team.
And if it resonates with you, we should talk.

Let’s build.
